Arthur Egerton

LEA REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNOR

With my wife Virginia, I have lived in Old Skelmersdale for over 25 years. We have two daughters still at home and three married sons living away; one of our three grandsons lives with us on a semi-permanent basis, because of his mother’s illness.

I have been a Governor for nearly two years, serving on the Premises/Health & Safety Committee, also the Pupil Discipline & Exclusions, Staffing Review, and Head Teacher Performance Review Committees.

I work locally as a Design Engineer which together with my governors duties, family responsibilities and parish community commitments, leave little time for hobbies. However, I manage to jog occasionally, but prefer listening to music (all kinds) or reading for relaxation

David Ashley

HEADTEACHER

Born in central Liverpool, David settled in Kirkby at the age of two. He attended Holy Angels RC Infant and Junior Schools before moving on to St. Kevin’s Comprehensive in September 1966. After completing public examinations he spent one year working as a Laboratory Technician within the Biochemistry Department of Liverpool University. David studied at Christ’s College and qualified as a teacher in July 1976. He began his career at Our Lady of Compassion RC Junior School, Formby in September of that year before moving on to Lander Road Primary School, Litherland in January 1979. After successfully completing a Diploma of Advanced Study in Education David was appointed Deputy Headteacher of the school in May, 1983. He took up post at St. Edmund’s RC Primary in September 1990 and was appointed as Justice of the Peace in November 1991.

David Married Helen in August 1977 and they have been resident in Skelmersdale for the whole of their married life. They have two children - Laura and Matthew.

An enthusiastic sportsman, David represented Kirkby Schoolboys’ Football Association at under 11, 14 and 15 levels and later the representative team of the Combined Universities and Colleges of England and Scotland. David spent a short time at Burscough Football Club before settling at Skelmersdale United FC for five seasons before injury forced a move into golf! After six years as Chairman of Beacon Park Golf Club, David now enjoys the benefits of membership at Gathurst Golf Club, where he plays off a handicap of 12.

I am a member of a quiz team (St.Edmund’s hold some excellent quiz nights for fundraising) and I always try to support the school in any social events.

Even though my children have now left, I will continue to support St.Edmund’s through the governing body, helping to promote the warm welcoming Christian ethos, that first convinced me it was the right school for my children.
