DAVID ASHLEY
HEADTEACHER

I was born in central Liverpool, and moved out to Kirkby at the age of two. I attended Holy Angels RC Infant and Junior Schools before moving on to St. Kevin's Comprehensive in September 1966. After completing public examinations I spent a year working as a Laboratory Technician within the Biochemistry Department of Liverpool University before studying at Christ's College, Liverpool where I qualified as a teacher in July 1976. I began my career at Our Lady of Compassion RC Junior School, Formby in September of that year before moving on to Lander Road Primary School, Litherland in January 1979. After successfully completing a Diploma of Advanced Study in Education I was appointed Deputy Headteacher of the school in May, 1983. I took up post as Headteacher at St. Edmund's RC Primary in September 1990. I was appointed as Justice of the Peace in November 1991.

I married Helen in August 1977 and we have been resident in Skelmersdale for the whole of our married life. We have two children - Laura and Matthew.

I have always been an enthusiastic sportsman and represented Kirkby Schools' Football Association at under 11, 14 and 15 levels and later the representative team of the Combined Universities and Colleges of England and Scotland. I spent a short time at Burscough Football Club before settling at Skelmersdale United FC for five seasons. Unfortunately injury forced a move into golf! After six years as Chairman of Beacon Park Golf Club, I moved on to membership at Gathurst Golf Club, where I played off a handicap of 12.
