Information and Communications Technology

"The modern world needs new skills. Understanding ICT and, more importantly, being able to apply it to the problems we face is one of the most important. Increasingly ICT will be vital for our individual prospects and for our economy's future."
(Lord Dennis Stevenson, Prime Minister's Adviser on ICT and Education)

Throughout Foundation Stage children find out about and identify the uses of everyday technology and use ICT and programmable toys to support their learning.

Throughout KS 1 pupils will explore ICT and learn to use it confidently and with purpose to achieve specific outcomes. They start to use ICT to develop and record their work. They become familiar with hardware and software.

Throughout KS 2 pupils use a wider range of ICT tools and information sources to support their work in other subjects. They develop their research skills and decide what information is appropriate for their work. They begin to question the plausibility and quality of information. They learn how to amend their work and present it in a way that suits its audience.

A small computer suite has been created in the school's library. The suite consists of eight networked PC's and is enhanced by the provision of an interative smart board with projector. In addition, a similar suite of four computers is located in the KS1 work station rescource area.

Each classroom is equipped with two computers and an interactive whiteboard. Children from FSU through to Year Six have gained confidence in using and applying ICT across the curriculum with this excellent provision.

We constantly review and assess the effectiveness of ICT provision and identify areas for further development. The school hall is equiped with a projector and laptop which supports pupils throughout the day including Powerpoint presentations, celebrations, whole school and community masses and assemblies.

The newly installed flat screen display located in the school entrance provides visitors to our school with an opportunity to view recently recorded school events such as Talent Shows and the DVD produced professionally last term which shows a snapshot view of our school at work and play in addition to pupil interviews.

These improvements serve to underline the school's commitment to provide pupils and staff with resources of the highest quality. Recently, Governors have agreed to support a request for the provison of a whole class set of laptops, together with trolley and wireless internet connection. This will allow staff to deliver tuition to their class at the same time and pupils will have regular access to a computer for their individual use.
