Language
Communication, Language and Literacy underpin all other curriculum areas and in so doing, have a central role to play in a child's educational development.
At St.Edmund's our primary aim is to help children become confident and competent communicators.
Children at St. Edmund's may come from widely differing backgrounds and therefore, it is likely that their abilities and skills on entry will vary significantly. By providing all pupils with a variety of experiences and opportunities to use language, it is hoped that they will build on what they already know. Our carefully planned and organised language policy can we hope, enhance and accelerate children's learning. We do of course recognise that our policy cannot remain static but must change in order to reflect the differing needs of children and the demands of a rapidly changing society.
All aspects of communication, language and literacy are interdependent and it is our aim always to provide a rich and varied range of language opportunities, within a supportive atmosphere, so as to encourage confidence in our pupils and thereby enable them to take 'risks' and experiment without fear of failure.
